Did you notice something missing today at Ms. Hanna Csermely presentation? No music score was to be seen as Ms. Csermely showcased not only her vibrant style, but her impressive memorisation skills through a near exact replica of her last local performance. There is something to be said about the enduring appeal of Ms. Csermely musical choices, specially when they fit her style so perfectly– and, truth be told, this talented pianist’s last local concert at Holy Trinity Church didn’t have the attendance of today, of about 160.
Ms. Csermely’s energetic elan suits her modern programme, and, through her expressive disposition, has made modern even her more baroque or impressionist selections of Bach and Debussy. While of her last local performance –a brief three months ago– I most enjoyed her Allegro de concierto by Enrique Granados (which was also very popular today), Ms. Csermely’s Prelude in D major, op. 23 n.º 4 by Sergei Rachmaninoff –the softest, most pensive piece of her repertory– was, perhaps, her strongest piece today, as it stood out for being a more melancholic tune in the midst of a playlist full vibrancy and interpreted with force and panache.
