About this page, and the author

A couple of years ago, after finishing the side-project I was working on, I found myself without a creative outlet for my writing, so I started, mostly as a mémoire, publishing video-game reviews, focusing on the literary aspects of those games. Earlier this year, however, my wife and I had the great opportunity to move into Southport, and here I've been regularly attending cultural events. I, therefore, started writing little reviews about them, first in Steve Ashcroft's qlocal.co.uk/southport, which is echoed in Southport News– particularly in its incredibly active Facebook community; through the engagement of those readers, the «little reviews» then became much more popular than any other content of my site, and now require, I believe, a place of their own– which is here.

I'd like to thank all those readers that have made this side project grow so much. I'd like to thank, too, all the artists that have been gracious enough to indulge me in my questions, and to thank Mr. Ashcroft for first publishing my stories, which was key to their growth. The other site will still host the reviews I first posted there, for it's my understanding that some of the musicians about whom I've written have themselves shared these stories, and I wouldn't want to mess any hyperlinks up, but they are also now collected –and better organised– here.

I first started reviewing cultural events while in a Master of Writing Creation in Barcelona, where I was lucky to be exposed to the artists that visited the Teatre Lliure, l'Auditori, and specially the Palau de la Música. That experience has been central into crafting reviews that, without being too technical, showcase the talent of the artist and the emotions evoked by act of being present in their performances.

Southport has a vibrant cultural community. Musicians are often blown-away by the disproportionate turnout this seemingly small town has when it comes to cultural activities. I'm glad these little articles serve to capture and archive the performance inspired by our local audience, and I hope that this site will the helpful to those that are either attempting to remember what they have lived, or to attempt to grasp a bit of what they have missed.
