Eira Lynn Jones at Christ Church

With a programme entitled «Hidden Stories», Ms Eira Lynn Jones brought to Christ Church the enthralling music of her harp; when I sat down, Christ Church appeared to be at half capacity, but by the concert's end, at about 14h00, when I got up again the hall seemed to have been at capacity, so I dare not say how many attendees admired today's magical performance.

The harp is an instrument I've come to know and appreciate in my séjour in Southport, and I suspect it's in no small part due to the influence of Ms Jones working through her students.

I was hypnotised by today's performance, and I know I was not alone, for I saw a person across me transported all the way to the land of Oneiros, and why shouldn't he be? For not only there is a transcendent quality to the harp, but Ms Jones herself has a gift for the metaphysical: her words about letting the music flow through, to accept it, truly resonated with me. As I write this, I'm aware that it sounds outlandish, but I venture that those who were at Christ Church today experienced Ms Jones' words combining with her music to create an experience that was not only musical.

It's difficult to pinpoint a high in a concert that had no lows, but I enjoyed the traditional Scottish «Glenlivet» performed in a clàrsach (how beautiful both of the harps displayed today!) particularly because these sounds are still very novel to me.

I'd say Christ Church has reached a new high-point, but the reality is that all presentations this season have been quite special. Can't wait until the next one!
