Maddie Lara at The Fool

My wife and I went to the newly-opened ‘The Fool’ in the hopes of catching Molly Scott, but a little mix-up meant that we arrived at a different time than planned and ended up listening to Maddie Lara's other-wordy sounds; she has the bright, witty poetic qualities of Pomme and the ethereal sound-scape of Aurora.

Turns out that a lot of work has gone into the sound-system of ‘The Fool’, because the audio was impeccable at conveying each note of Ms Lara's guitar & each syllable of her lyrics in a clear, not-too-loud, not-at-all distorted way that really did justice to her performance. ‘The Fool’ as a venue is very inviting: we sat comfortably and, while the place was pretty much full as we left, it is spacious enough to not feel crowded. It does have a rather low ceiling, which usually presents an acoustic challenge for musical presentations, but Ms Lara's music flowed without a hitch– or a slappy echo.

I can't express how mesmerising and ethereal the music of Maddie Lara is. Unfortunately, her catalogue is not yet completely out on Spotify, but we can only hope that more of her songs will be available there soon.
