Julie Ann Carr's Singers at Christ Church (2025)

Julie Ann Carr and her fabulous singers graced Christ Church earlier today as part of the Midweek Music, bringing a selection of Broadway standards with them. Ms Carr's talented students last visited Christ Church in October last year, and today featured both new and familiar faces.

First with the new: A very sunny April did two pieces, «If my friends could see me now» and «Pulled», from Sweet Charity and The Addams Family, respectively, and delivered a particularly cheerful Wednesday.

Ms June Beswick did a velvety performance of «Summertime» accompanied by a prop of a baby handled so realistically that the lady next to me almost called the authorities.

Sophie Freeman also did two beautiful songs: a heartfelt rendition of «Can't help lovin dat man» and an equally soft version of «I know the truth» from Aida (1999).

A very performative Milly did «Spotlight» from Everybody's Talking about Jamie, and her voice definitely matched her theatrics, as both were of the utmost level.

Last October we already became acquainted with Laura Bevan, who has kept her very technically-polished level, showcased in a very rangy medley from The King & I.

Rachel Tammadge, another familiar face, did a magnificent rendition of «Someone Like You», a very difficult piece from Jekyll & Hyde (1990). Mses Tammadge & Bevan closed the show with a duet from Wicked, a musical Ms Tammadge must prefer, as surely many of today's almost 280 audience members still remember her rendition of «Defying Gravity» performed last October.

I'm not one to give financial advice, but I do believe having your programme autographed by Andrew Dunnet-Edge is a solid investment. His «Mister Cellophane» was worthy of any stage around our globe— even better than his last showstopper, «Flash, Bang, Wallop».

Ms Julie Ann Carr must be a very good teacher, as all her students perform at impressive levels, both vocally, and, when required, theatrically, commanding both the stage and the scales.
