Marie-Louise Taylor at Christ Church

At Christ Church earlier today, and to a crowd of nearly two hundred music connoisseurs, Marie-Louise Taylor offered a piano recital of Mozart, Rachmaninoff, and Ravel preludes and sonatas.

In a stylistically chronological performance from Classical to Romantic to Modern, this presentation showcased, amongst many other things, the inherent beauty of each era by means of the polished precision of Ms Taylor's playing: her Mozart feel buoyant, her Rachmaninoff soulful, her Ravel crystalline.

I particularly liked the Op. 32 n.º 10 in B minor of the Rachmaninoff set, but this partiality must be attributed to my own predilections, as all three authors were performed to an incomparable standard: what I mean to say is that this is what these pieces are meant to sound like when an interpreter produces exactly what is written on the sheet, without being obfuscated by personal flourishes.
