The Jazz Trio had earlier today both their most attended and best performance ever, for it was also their first one. But this Royal Northern College of Music trio comprising Daniel Orchard on bass, Connor O'Hara, piano, and Sachin Patel on the drums, is no stranger to musical success in their own, independent endeavours, and the musical rapport they have built over their four years at RNCM was quite apparent to the scores of attendees who graced Christ Church today.
Southport has a craving for Jazz; each time Christ Church serves a bit of ragtime flavour, the audience laps it up, and today, through classics like ‘Solar’ by Miles Davis, or ‘Very Early’ and ‘Nardis’ of pianist Bill Evans, the Jazz Trio proved that the time they didn’t spend trying to come up with a band-name was instead used in developing harmonic synchronicity and flowing, charismatic improvisations that resonated well with the audience. I mean to say is that the Jazz Trio not only played well, but that it also seems to enjoy doing it, which makes it, in turn, a joy to watch and listen to.
