If you’ve ever wondered what a cello quartet sounds like, The Celloship of the String answered that question early today at Christ Church, performing for a crowd of about one hundred music enthusiasts.
The Celloship, comprised of Bob Buller, Ilona Hepburn, Penny Holt, and Margit van der Zwan, played a diverse range of compositions, spanning classics like the opening of Bach’s «Brandenburg Concerto N.º 3» to movie themes such as «The Bare Necessities» from The Jungle Book and the iconic James Bond Theme. Well-received were two Argentinian pieces: «Por una Cabeza» by Carlos Gardel and «Oblivion» by Astor Piazzolla.
The most applauded performance was perhaps the encore, the Beatles’ «When I’m Sixty-Four», which had some of the crowd singing along.
