Floral Art exhibition in the Southport Flower Show

I don’t think I had ever considered the difficulties that must surround floral arrangements, or been previously exposed to such fine showcases of this art-form.

The standard aesthetic principles of plastic compositions still apply: balance, symmetry, colour and material harmony, but into an already delicate mix, a further complication is added: flowers and plants, which demand a way to be presented, and a way to be affixed.

The result of this difficult, normatively limited endeavour, as most artistic expressions that have limits imposed upon them, flourishes creatively. These are some of the exhibits that greatly caught my attention:

Fittingly, this live art-form is best appreciated live, as three-dimensional objects are not well captured by cameras– just like sculptures resist photography.
