«Amabile» performs music from “a multitude of genres, and, in particular, women composers”– as per they own advertisement. Today they sang pieces by David Willcocks, Gustav Holst, Stephen Hatfield (arr.), John Ireland, Jacques Offenbach, Eleanor Daley, Leonard Cohen, Walter Hawkins and Franz Xaver Gruber.
With such a diverse offering, surely everyone must have had a different song stand out to them, but, to me, it was ballad «The Death of Queen Jane» that stood out above the rest. There, I felt, the sopranos and altos complemented each other perfectly—whereas in some other pieces, notably the «Barcarolle», the altos rather overpowered the sopranos (though that impression may simply have been the result of where I was sitting).
All in all, «Amabile» delivered a memorable performance; I suspect the whole of Christ Church would happily welcome them back far more often.
