The Jazz Trio

The suitably named Jazz Trio comprised of Isaac Horton, Max Cooper, and Jack Williams visited Christ Church earlier today and played to a crowd of more than 150 musical connoisseurs.

In a very jazzy way, they played their programme in a peculiar fashion: their third listed song came second, their fourth came fifth, and the last two were axed altogether in favour of «My funny Valentine».

«Autumn Leaves», which was listed second but played third, was, I thought, the standout piece to me, as I found the drumming, done by Jack Williams, really came into the rest of the song. «Twilith», by Randy Scott, really showcased the piano-bass synchronicity that makes this trio a very unique musical proposition. Isaac Horton is a generous master of the glissando: his smooth piano skills kept him at the foreground when wanted and at the background when needed. Max Cooper is no mere bassist, mend you, as his solos glided quickly through the range of his electric mast, combining leads with fundamentals like a quick-but-small handed pianist opens a convoluted & extended chord to reach all of its tones.

I do have a suggestion: «The Jazz Trio», while aptly descriptive, is a bit of a bland name. A bit on the nose. I suggest «The Barroc Quartet» to throw people off the scent.
